Bondan anak petani miskin, menjadi bulan-bulanan Surip, anak juragan Amir yang judes, pelit dan serakah. Meski demikian, Sumi, anak kedua juragan tersebut justru berwatak sebaliknya dari anggota keluarga lainnya.
Bapak-ibu Bondan terlibat hutang untuk menyekolahkan Bondan. Itu awal malapetaka, karena hutang tesebut tak terbayar, sementara Bondan terlibat perkelahian dengan Surip. Bondan pergi dan bekerja di kota. Di sini dia bertemu dengan Pak Broto, yang berhutang budi, hingga ingin membalas.
Saat juragan Amir jatuh bangkrut, Bondan yang mendapat rejeki rumah juragan tersebut dari pemberian dari pemberian Pak Broto, mengajak kembali juragannya untuk tetap tinggal di rumah itu
